Sanders Campaign Making Change Happen

“After more than a month of constant campaign pressure from Democratic Candidate Ryan Sanders, Rep. Platts crossed party lines to vote in support of  the Democratic unemployment extension bill yesterday after initially voting against it.

His vote came after passage of the bill in the Senate the day before, and with overwhelming Democratic support for the bill in the House.  So his vote means virtually nothing in terms of outcome.

‘Glad to have Mr. Platts finally join the Democratic Party on the second vote for this much needed extension of benefits to folks in need in Adams, Cumberland, and York Counties — it’s too bad he didn’t cross the aisle on the many, many votes under the Bush administration that created our nation’s biggest deficit and highest unemployment since 2000.’ Sanders said today. ‘We should remember that 98% of Americans paid fewer taxes this year than in any single year of the Bush-Cheney-Platts era….’”

Sanders Praises Dems For Healthcare Reform Vote, Change

“(Shippensburg, PA) — Speaking to a packed house of supporters at the Shippensburg Fire House last evening Ryan Sanders praised the Geisinger Health Plan for no long excluding coverage for pre-existing health conditions.

Sanders held up a letter his own small business received from the health care corporation and said, ‘it has taken years to come to this point where we can get guaranteed health care coverage without ‘pre-existing’ conditions — years — and you did that!’

He told the overflow audience that they organized, worked hard and voted for the change and that change is happening. ‘Geisinger is just one example,’ he said. ‘They started their new program June 1 this year, but they didn’t have to eliminate pre-existing conditions by law until 2014. Geisinger chose to lead, they chose to do it now, There will be no more horror stories of the uninsured dying alone and that’s happening because you voted to make it happen.’

Sanders said nine of 10 small businesses with fewer than 25 employees in Adams, Cumberland, and York counties will be eligible for tax credits this year under the new health-care reform law and nearly one in four will qualify for the maximum 35 percent credit. ‘My opponent, Todd Platts, wants to hurt the small businesses in our district by trashing health care reform and starting all over again,’ he said….

Committee Person Trainings Scheduled

To help in our work of electing Democratic candidates, the CCDC has scheduled two committee person trainings.  The first training will be held Saturday, July 24 at 10 a.m., and the second session is slated for August 21 at the same time.  You may attend one session or the other.

Both trainings will be held at CCDC headquarters, 46 W. Louther St., Carlisle.

The sessions will provide valuable insight into what committee people do, and how they do it. Several veteran committee members will share what they do in their precincts and wards; it will be a time of sharing experiences and ideas.

Everyone who attends will receive access to Votebuilder for your precinct. Votebuilder is an online voter file of all the voters in your precinct, and helps you to run phone lists, walk lists, labels and so much more.

This training will be informal but extremely helpful and informative. Please make plans to attend one or the other.

Sanders tours small businesses, praises work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit

(Dillsburg, PA) —  Congressional Candidate Ryan Sanders completed a series of visits with small business owners in York, Adams, and Cumberland County this week, praising workers and entrepreneurs who are pushing ahead, “building a new future,” despite the worst recession since the 1930s.

“When the times get tough, the tough get going.” Sanders said in Dillsburg today. “When you visit the small business owner and talk to him and her and their family of employees, you see what’s real in their world and what’s nothing more than the same old political rhetoric.”

Sanders said the three most important things government can do for smaller businesses right now are, “one, make sure they have access to credit at good rates. Two, make sure they get every tax reduction possible from congress; and three, get small business health care costs down and controllable so they know what the future costs will be.”  Sanders said he had an agenda for these areas he will discuss throughout the summer….

Sanders delivers his message of victory to Cumberland County Democrats

Carlisle, PA) — Speaking before the Cumberland County Democratic Committee members last night in Carlisle, Congressional Candidate Ryan Sanders outlined his campaign and demonstrated that Democrats across York, Adams, and Eastern Cumberland County are poised make history in fall PA 19th Congressional District race.

“We need about 110,000 votes to win this election and if we — you and I — work hard together from now until November, we will get those votes and win this house seat.” Ryan told the enthusiastic crowd of about 100 county leaders.

He pointed to the 109,000 votes garnished by the Democratic candidate in the last congressional race. “It takes two things for us to win this race, you have to get out the vote, and that means all the Democrats have to show up on election day. And we have to raise enough money to get our message to the voters of all parties in the district. And that means each of you has to hold meet n’ greets in your neighborhood so I can get out our message about more jobs, building better communities, and better representation in Washington.”

Sanders said the political climate favored his candidacy. His opponent, who originally ran as a term limits candidate, has lost serious party support in a heated primary that emphasized his lack of accomplishment and job seeking in the federal bureaucracy. “My opponent is looking for another job and his party knows that.” Sanders said. “More than 1 in 3 Republicans want a new representative in Washington. But we will only win if you and your neighbors support our campaign, show up at the polls in November, and vote for Ryan Sanders.”

Democratic Committee Chairperson Gail McDermot praised Ryan Sanders and committed the full support of Democrats across Cumberland County to raise funds and get out the vote in the fall. “Ryan Sanders, Joe Sestak, Dan Onorato and a first rate lineup of local Democratic candidates will change the future of government in Washington, and in our state and local municipalities.” McDermot said.

Sanders promised he would visit with all committee members and their friends and neighbors at fund raising events throughout the summer, spreading his message of more jobs, more concern for our communities, and positive change in politics in Washington.
