History – Democrats in the Keystone State

The Pennsylvania Democratic Party’s governing body, the State Committee, dates back to 1792 and sets direction for Democrats up and down the ballot statewide. CCDC sits at the most local level of that structure — the county committee that connects Cumberland County to the broader party.

Pennsylvania earned its “Keystone State” nickname both geographically (it was the middle colony of the original thirteen) and for the central role it’s played in the country’s economic, social, and political life for over two centuries. CCDC carries that same idea forward locally — organizing and electing Democrats committed to voting rights, human rights, and civil rights for everyone.
