2025 Cumberland County Elections Results
2025 GENERAL ELECTION IS TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4
#1 Goal: Retain our judgesVOTE YES TO RETAIN PA SUPREME COURT AND OTHER PA JUDGES
Here’s how:
Please vote “yes” to retain Justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, David Wecht, Alice Beck Dubow, and Michael H. Wojcik.
this is confusing because:
In retention elections, voters are asked to vote “yes” or “no” on whether to re-elect each judge seeking retention. The names of the candidates are listed on a separate area of the ballot, apart from individuals running for executive and legislative offices. No political affiliation is listed for retention candidates.
Here’s why:
Our mission for the 2025 election cycle is to fight to retain our judicial slate. With a new administration taking hold of our country at the national level, it is now more imperative than ever that we take on the fight at the state and local levels. And the most important battle in Pennsylvania, the final firewall for our rights, will be fought to protect our statewide appellate court system.
When first selected for full terms of office, justices of the Supreme Court and judges of the statewide Superior and Commonwealth courts run as members of a political party. After serving initial 10-year terms, those jurists who seek reelection do so through “retention elections” in which they are not affiliated with any political party.
Off Year Elections Matter more than you think:
Off-year elections may not get the same attention as presidential races, but they have a huge impact on our daily lives. Local and state officials elected during these years make critical decisions about schools, public safety, infrastructure, and voting rights. These elections often have lower turnout—meaning your vote carries even more weight. Showing up in off years helps build momentum, shape policy close to home, and protect democracy from the ground up. YOUR VOTE MATTERS!

For local Judicial and School Board Races, candidates can cross file, meaning in some cases candidates who are registered Republicans may appear on the ballot as the Democratic candidate. In this voter guide, we have included some of these candidates identified as cross-filed Republicans. Candidates whose names are in bold are registered Democrats. If you have questions about any candidates running in your municipality, please get in touch with us, and we will do our best to help you: cumberlandcountydems.com/contact-us.

South Middleton School Board – Vote for 4
On Facebook from the Carlisle School Board President:
Dear South Middleton Township friends and community members:
As you may be aware, the upcoming SMSD school board election has 5 candidates running for 4 spots. One of these candidates (Jim Sias) had his primary campaign supported by the Take Back Our Schools political action committee, which is an outside group that has positions aligned with Moms for Liberty.
Cari Donley is a 2001 BSHS graduate and parent running for school board. Consider voting for her, and not voting for Jim Sias. I urge you to share this with friends, family, and neighbors. It is extremely important to get the word out and VOTE for someone who respects teachers, puts students first, and supports parent engagement (rather than far right ideology)!!!

I was born in a small farm town, the son of a steelworker father and a factory worker mother who taught me the values of hard work and determination. I became the first member of my family to attend college (Hillsdale College), where I studied psychology and history. After graduating, I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, specializing in the treatment of abused and neglected children. I then spent several years working in universities and children’s hospitals in California, Texas, and Utah. I returned to Pennsylvania in 2014 following child abuse allegations at Penn State University when I was recruited by the Penn State Children’s Hospital to develop and direct an outpatient treatment program for maltreated children. The program I built is now an internationally recognized model for the clinical care of maltreated children and conducts cutting edge research funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the Children’s Miracle Network. Through these experiences, I have worked with people from all types of backgrounds, managed multi-million dollar budgets, navigated state and federal regulations, and have always put the well-being of children first and foremost. I continue in this work as a Professor of Pediatrics in the Penn State College of Medicine.
I spent the entirety of my 33 year teaching career as a Physical Science educator in the East Pennsboro Area School District and I have called East Pennsboro Township home for over 20 years. My wife, Rainie, also is a career long educator in EPASD and lifelong resident of the township. I have 3 sons who graduated from Juniata County School District and a stepdaughter who graduated from East Pennsboro Area School District.
Morgan Strehlow is a literary agent and mother to a first grader at Shepherdstown Elementary. She is running for Mechanicsburg Area School Board Director, Region 2, because she believes that student dignity and access to educational opportunity should not be partisan, nor should they be political. Our children should not be pawns in our culture wars. When Morgan sends her autistic child to school, she wants the same thing every parent and caregiver wants for their child: for him to feel safe and for him to get the knowledge and skills he’ll need to be successful in life. Morgan is committed to being a voice for the common good and inclusion in MASD.
Brian Sanker is running for re-election as School Board Director for Mechanicsburg Area School District – Region 1, a position he was appointed to in spring 2017 and elected to that November. He currently serves as School Board Vice President and Chairperson of the Finance and Facilities Committee. Brian also represents the district on the Joint Operating Committee of the Cumberland-Perry Area Vocational Technical School, where he is Chairperson of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. His work on both boards has given him valuable insight into the diverse needs of students from kindergarten through graduation and beyond.
Originally from Philadelphia, Deborah has called Mechanicsburg home since 1995 — and proudly raised a family of Wildcats. Today, her granddaughter Adeline is in first grade at Broad Street Elementary, Class of 2036 — and she, along with her little brother Benjamin, inspire her to run for the Mechanicsburg School Board.
