Cumberland County Democratic Committee Members, Candidates, Volunteers and Friends:
What a night!!! I don’t know about you, but I was ready for a win and boy did our candidates deliver in this year’s elections! It’s been barely 24 hours, but let’s recap:
- Cumberland County elected a Democrat to the Court of Common Pleas for the first time since WWII (Congrats Sasha Sacavage!)
- Cumberland County won in 2 of the 3 County Row offices where we had a candidate on the ballot (Congrats Montana Hartman and Susan Turner!)
- Cumberland County went BLUE for our statewide judicial candidates (Congrats Brandon Nueman and Stella Tsai!)
- Cumberland County voted YES on critical judicial retention elections by a margin of 10 points!
- Democrats swept township commissioner and borough council races in Carlisle, Camp Hill, Hampden Township, East Pennsboro Township, Mechanicsburg, and New Cumberland
- Democrats picked up seats on the Upper Allen, Lower Allen, and North Middletown township boards of commissioners
- Democrats won Mayoral races in New Cumberland and Shippensburg
- Democrats and Democratic-aligned bi-partisan slates won in Camp Hill, Carlisle, East Pennsboro, Cumberland Valley, Mechanicsburg and West Shore school districts.
There were so many wins I am sure I missed some.
Our local success mirrored the success of Democrats across the country, with key wins in New Jersey, Virginia, an exciting NYC Mayoral race, California’s prop 50 and a host of statewide and down ballot victories in other states including Georgia and Mississippi.
This was a wave. A wave powered by the hard work of candidates and volunteers, and fueled by the discontent that clouds our nation thanks to the current President and the daily atrocities that he has inflicted on this country. We won yesterday because our neighbors (from all political persuasions) trusted our candidates to protect and represent their interests. They voted for us to provide better government, fiscal responsibility (yes! Dems are for fiscal responsibility!), better schools for our kids, and most importantly LESS DRAMA!
Let’s celebrate! Let us also acknowledge that waves crest and recede. It is now up to us to “sustain the wave” and carry this goodwill that we have won from voters into next year to ensure further victories. We do that by delivering on our promises and staying organized. CCDC stands ready to help our newly elected officials get ready to serve with competence and honor, and we are laying the groundwork to deploy resources to ensure victory in next year’s midterms. I invite you to join us!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
